Sex Therapy

Sex Therapy

Sex therapy is a type of therapy in which the clinician helps clients explore the self, enhance their relationships, and facilitates conversations about desire, pleasure, and intimacy with loved ones. It can also alter the way in which we feel about ourselves and show up in the world.

When examining how people view sex, intimacy, and connection, it is imperative to address formative experiences, including but not limited to those with their family of origin, past relationships, and in their friendships. This is because our past experiences and connections set the stage for how we show up in and view our current connections. Fully surrounding the issues, by examining any underlying attachment-based concerns is key. Taking an approach in which there is both a deep exploration of the self and also a development of action-based tools is important.

I work with clients using an attachment lens, utilizing interventions from Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method, Solution-Focused Therapy, and the larger fields of sex therapy and relationship science. I am active and collaborative in my approach, and also incorporate psychoeducation as needed.

I am a LGBTQ+ affirming, poly-friendly, and kink positive therapist and have worked extensively with people in ethically non-monogamous relationships. I also use an intersectional lens to fully understand and affirm my clients’ identities and lived experiences. My goal with all of my clients is to empower them to live authentically.

Some common topics I focus on are:

  • ethically non-monogamous relationships

  • desire discrepancy between partners

  • exploring sexual identity

  • physical and emotional intimacy

  • desire and pleasure

  • sexual values and beliefs

  • infidelity

  • communication about sex

  • sexual or performance anxiety

  • exploring the role of kink in relationships
